World Talent House: Bridging the Talent Gap between the U.S., Mexico and Iberoamerica

World Talent House (WTH), which launched in Los Angeles in February 2013, is planning to add producers to its roster of behind-the-camera talent from Latin America and Spain next year.

CEO/Founder Fabiola Pena (pictured) is in talks with some heavyweight producers from Mexico and elsewhere. WTH’s aim is to package film and TV projects, and facilitate the exchange of talent between Spanish-speaking countries, and with the U.S.

WTH’s growing behind-the-scenes talent includes scribes Camilo Torres, who’s currently developing a series for Mexico’s TV Azteca, Pablo Aramendi, who is creating a series for Sony Pictures Television International and Jose Luis Acosta, who’s crafting a series for U.S. Hispanic network Telemundo. Other WTH talent include: Sebastian del Amo, who helmed Mexico’s entry to the 2015 Foreign Oscars race, “Cantinflas;” Argentina’s Lucia Puenzo (The German Doctor), and “Instructions Not Included“ cinematographer Martin Boege.

WTH is an extension of Pena’s 14-year-old talent management company Talent On The Road (TOTR), which reps an impressive roster of thesps that includes Carolina Guerra (Da Vinci’s Demons), Damian Alcazar (La Dictadura Perfecta), Paulina Gaitan (Narcos), Spain’s Rafael Cebrian (Borgia), L.A.-based Kuno Becker (Dallas), Alfonso Herrera (Wachowski Brothers’ “Sense 8”) and “Pulling Strings” comedian Omar Chaparro, for whom Talent On The Road is developing a show.

In Mexico alone, “Film production is up but not all the projects are the right fit for our talent,” says Pena. “In Mexican television, there are only two major broadcasters and not much space to grow,” adds Pena who strives to find more international outlets for WTH and TOTR talent.

For her Talent on the Road clients, Pena has forged partnerships with talent agents in other territories including Maricela Marulanda in Colombia, Alejandro Vanelli in Argentina and Katrina Bayonas in Spain. “We take care of each other’s clients if they’re working in our respective territories,” she explains.

Talent On The Road has placed some of its actors in top talent agencies including CAA, ICM Partners, Innovative, and UTA.

Pena’s path to talent management began when she first created advertising casting agency Intercast in Mexico in 1985, and later opened one in Miami in 1992, placing Latino talent in U.S. Hispanic and pan-regional TV campaigns for major brands. “Working in the U.S. has helped me see the business from an American perspective,” she says.

Driving WTH’s formation is the “need to professionalize the Latino market” and one way to do that, she points out, is to “secure the help of agents and producers, and forge alliances with each other across various territories.”
